NIKON digital cameras cannot be used for infrared photography because they have an IR filter installed in front of the sensor as standard.
This filters out light with infrared wavelengths. An IR filter in front of the lens would therefore be ineffective.
The only solution would be to modify the camera by removing the IR filter in front of the sensor.
But firstly, this is quite expensive and secondly, it would permanently change an expensive camera. It is only worth it if you do a lot of professional IR photography.
The IR effect can, however, be emulated with Photoshop. This requires three settings layers. These have many parameters that can be changed according to personal taste.
The examples I show here are my first attempts with these settings, and I am still learning which settings produce the best image.
